In this short episode, I give my thoughts on what a "vote" truly means to the greater collective. I highlight the idea of democracy being "on the line" in regards to voting.
There are so many reasons to vote, and a few not to, but the overview reason is to encourage your to participate in the governing environment around you. I personally have never voted and will not today, but that's not out of frustration or apathy. It's because I will engage with the primary voting system in place when I feel my voice won't lose fidelity through the process.
In our Representative Democracy, we don't vote on laws or policies the same way Switzerland does in their Direct Democracy. We elect officials that we trust will represent our values. That rarely happens in a ubiquitous way through voting for president every four years. Local elections and local politics is the way to make your voice more heard, but I choose to reclaim the collective narrative by spreading ideas. That's my vote.
I believe all of you are wise enough to develop a gnosis of how you should behave and act and vote. Shame should not be a determinant for your selection process. Let the opinions of social media pass through you like a thought past the buddha's mind. It's okay that it moves you emotionally, but let it pass and come back to center. You might come to realize that the rhetoric on the news is polarizing but politics is far more stable than you may notice.
So when you hear that democracy is on the line, just remember that it's a tactic to push you to participate meaningfully.
Remember remember the 5th of November. The non-violent one.
